Okay, so we knew it was inevitable, but that doesn’t mean we are all happy that winter finally arrived! Brr it is COLD! And cold makes it difficult to get out the way you used to. Even if you bundle up, going for walks is not always an option. If you have an older child as well as a baby, this can be even trickier. How can you keep everyone happy without getting a crazy case of cabin fever? Here are five ideas to get you, and your children, out of the house on even the coldest days!

1) Indigo

Did you know that most Indigo stores have a kids section with Lego, train tables, and even story time? Not all locations have this, but the larger locations do. You can even grab a book and a coffee and have a few minutes to yourself!

2) McDonald’s

This is particularly good for kids in the 3+ group. Even if you don’t want to eat there, the coffee isn’t bad and the playplace will keep your child happy and active. A good time to run off all that extra energy.

3) The Ontario Science Centre

A membership to the Science Centre is a great way to keep busy during the winter. Their KidsPark has safe areas for children under 3 to play in, as well as lots to do for the older crowd. It’s a great place to meet other moms and caregivers who are there with their kids and make some new friends as well!

4. The Library

Did you know that Toronto Public Libraries have some amazing programming in many of their locations? Song and story times, baby groups, toddler groups, and more. It also helps to switch up the bedtime stories so you don’t have to read Fox in Socks for the five hundredth time.

5) Movies for Mommies/Stars and Strollers

Maybe you want to take in the latest Disney animated movie with your older child, or maybe you just have a little one at home with you and you need to Get. Out. Of. The. House. It happens! A great place to meet other moms, indulge in some movie popcorn, and enjoy the afternoon!
