Kaitlyn’s Overnight Oats
Who doesn’t love the thought of having an overnight doula who takes care of baby, and leaves a delicious breakfast for you before she heads out? Kaitlyn is well known with our clients for her amazing ability to nourish new parents. One thing everyone loves is waking up to her overnight oats after a good night’s sleep. She is sharing her recipe so that everyone can enjoy the food, even if they can’t have her there overnight.
Kaitlyn’s Overnight Oats
It’s really quite simple. 1 part oats to 1 part liquid. That’s it! When I do overnight work with new families, I typically ask if there are any meals I can prepare and leave in the fridge. Although I am happy to make anything, I usually suggest “would you like some overnight oats?”.
Oats are an ingredient that is often suggested for milk supply. If you look at the ingredients of most “milk maker” cookies and bars, there is most likely oats within the mix. So this is one reason it could be beneficial for postpartum families.
After you have a baby, its understandable to want to eat comfort foods. Our bodies release more cortisol when we are sleep deprived which leads to a higher craving for carbohydrates. Our bodies have a higher craving for delicious things during this time and overnight oats are very easy to make delicious! I can shred an apple and cook it with butter and cinnamon, or chop a banana and dark chocolate chips to make a banana chocolate oats.
Overnight oats are also very easy to make exceptionally healthy. Its nice because it keeps you full for longer than if you simply ate a piece of toast. Oats have fibre, protein, and a lot of vitamins. With the addition of whatever milk/liquid you add (ive even added steeped tea before- chai spiced oats) it can add even more nutrients. I can even add chia seeds, flax, or hemp hearts to increase good fat content.
In the morning, all you would have to do is scoop your overnight oats into a bowl and you can even add a scoop of greek yogurt beside it. Easy healthy breakfast!

This is a recipe I’ve done many times before.
Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oat Recipe
1cup oats
1 cup milk
1 shredded Apple
1 tbsp butter
2 tbsp milled flaxseed
1tbsp maple syrup
1 dash of cinnamon, ginger, and allspice
Warm the butter in a frying pan. Shred the apple into the pan and add the spices on top. Add the dashbof maple syrup. Cook on low until the apple looks a bit cooked.
Add the flax with the oats. Then mix in whatever milk you would like. Put the apple mixture into the oat mixture. Place in Tupperware overnight. It should be ready to eat by morning.
You may not be able to have Kaitlyn as your overnight doula, but you can still enjoy her delicious breakfast!
