Product Review: The Sleep Belt

As doulas, we are regularly asked for recommendations. We try to keep on top of the new products coming out, and we will admit it, we have favourite standbys that we also recommend. One in particular that we try to keep an eye on are baby wearing products. Many families like to try and wear their babies and ask our advice. The hardest part of this is when we have to tell families that their babies are not quite big enough yet to wear most carriers. This is especially a problem for our families with premies. Thats why we were so excited to hear about The Sleep Belt.
Meaghan tested out the Sleep Belt with her four month old (who was neither small, nor premature). At first, she was admittedly skeptical; sure, it would be a fantastic product for parents with babies in the NICU, who were premature, medically fragile, or needed some extra help. But using it with a full term, boisterous baby? Thats what her wraps and slings were for!
Boy was she wrong! The Sleep Belt has fast become one of the most useful baby products she has ever owned! She is still using it two and a half months later with her 20lb, mobile little boy. The Sleep Belt has kept her hands free with a sleeping baby at Pan Am events, allowed her to eat (and share) her meal in a restaurant with a forward facing baby, helping him to stay upright in a shopping cart when those small belts aren’t enough support, and even belted him into high chairs more securely! The Sleep Belt means Meaghan can do work at a computer while also snuggling her baby.
And thats all with an older infant! She wishes she had this amazing product when he was little! It can assist with skin to skin, help a parent to feel a little more covered up while snuggling, and doesn’t overheat the parent or the baby!
Remember that, which this is a wearing device, it is not meant to be worn while walking or mobile. The four way stretch material means that this device should only be used when the wearer is stationary.
