The first time…
The first time…
…the test had two lines, I heard your heart beat, I saw you on the sonograph,
The first time…
…I felt those little flutters, those flutters turned into a solid right jab to my bladder, I felt you poke me back.
The first time…
…I realized those contractions were real and today was the day, that my waters broke, that I gave a great big push for you to enter this world.
The first time….
…I heard your cry, I looked in your eyes, I looked up and saw the tears in your daddy’s eyes.
The first time…
…I touched your skin, I smelled your hair, you gripped my finger.
The first time…
…I gave you a bath, I introduced you to your nana, you went in a car seat to go home.
The first night as a family.
The firs time…
…you rolled over, you crawled.
The first steps on your own. You really wanted that ball.
The first bump. The first bruise.
The first day of daycare. The first time you went to bed without your pacifier.
The first time you didn’t need my help getting dressed.
The first day of pre-school.
So many firsts, in such a short period of time.
Each first, seared into my memory.
Each first, the most precious thing in the world.
When your baby is born, it is hard to imagine that each ‘first time’ will come and go in the blink of an eye. But your tiny baby one day will very quickly become a talking, walking, bundle of fun. Cherish all the first time moments. You won’t always recognize them in that instant, but you will remember them later, realizing just how significant they became.
