Metamorphosis

butterfly
The dictionary defines metamorphosis as “a complete change of form, structure, orsubstance, as transformation by magic or witchcraft.” Biologically, a butterfly is s perfect example. When a caterpillar spins it’s cocoon, it undergoes metamorphisis and emerges a butterfly.

You may have noticed that our blog has been quiet the last two weeks. Meaghan and Alex were working with all the Toronto Family Doulas to prepare for them to go to Kansas City, MO for the first annual ProDoula conference, Instilling Strength 2015.

I know you are wondering how those two things are connected. You might also be wondering why you should care.

We underwent a metamorphisis in Kansas City.

This conference was not only transformative and life changing, it has rejuvenated our business and us as the owners.

Now, it hasn’t changed our contracts. We won’t be revamping our packages. Our team will still be the amazing doulas you have met and connected with. Our branding will remain the same (we like it!).

But our hearts are changed.

When Alex and I flew to Kansas City, we were doulas and business owners. We were certified with ProDoula. We had friends from all over through ProDoula but we had never met them in person. During these three days, we met, cared for, rejoiced with, cried with (seriously, a Tissue company needs to be next years sponsor) and connected.

Before we left, we were caterpillars. We were driven and purposeful. We knew what we were doing. This conference was our cocoon. It held us, nurtured us, it transformed us. It has filled us and left us ready to fly to new levels with beautiful wings.
Together, the attendeesbutterfly represented decades of experiences, different skin colours, different backgrounds, unique upbringings, and diverse religious affiliations. We were young, old, curvy and thin, long hair, short hair, agency owners, and independent contractors. We represented the best the doula world has to offer. And for three days, we filled each other’s cups.

We will never be the same.
We are transformed.
We have undergone metamorphisis and emerged stronger, wiser, more connected doulas.

Thank you, ProDoula, for helping us transform.
