The Best Hug

hug

The most important thing is to be confident.

No one wants to hug you if you’re tentative – it’s like the floppy fish handshake, it just feels wrong.

They key to a good hug is to keep your bum in, hug with your whole body and really share the warmth and love. The person you’re hugging should feel like you want to hug them. If they’re a close friend you can even add in a little bum wiggle for giggles!

The hard part about hugging is when to let go – you don’t want it to be the hug that never ends! This is harder to prepare for. I find if you stay in the moment you’ll naturally know when the hug is done. Practice with friends if you’re not sure.

As a doula, I am, among other things, a professional hugger.

Sometimes at a birth my clients need the connection and reassurance that only a hug can bring.  You might be wet from the shower or sweaty from the hard work, but I’ll hug you long and hard no matter what.

As a postpartum doula I am always happy to give a hug as well. Perhaps its reassurance that everything is normal, celebratory that breastfeeding is going better, or just a supportive embrace.

I’ll even snuggle your baby while you shower or nap!

The best thing about hugging a doula? I’m trained in providing non-judgmental support, so whether you’re an arms-on-top hugger, arms-on-bottom hugger, or a one-arm-in-each-direction hugger – I’ll meet you where you’re at!
